Hi, I am Captain Cody Wabiszewski and I write all of the articles on Global Fishing Reports. The articles are written with the intent to help both novice and experienced anglers catch more fish and have a more enjoyable time when fishing.
I am a professional charter fishing captain and have run charters in the USVI, Juneau Alaska, and Sitka Alaska. Growing up in Pennsylvania I fished the great lakes, lakes, streams, and ponds. Fishing bass tournaments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey gave me insight into the world of freshwater tournament fishing. I have also fished in most states, including Florida, California, Washington, Arkansas, Texas, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine, New York, and many others.
This website and my YouTube channel, Captain Cody focuses on providing how-to fishing content. Fishing is the most fun when you go on an adventure, not knowing what you might catch. Hopefully these articles give you ideas on what fish you want to try and catch and allow you to catch more fish!

Ling Cod Fishing– Learn how to catch sea dragon size ling cod when fishing for halibut, rockfish and salmon.
Mahi-Mahi Fishing – Discover how to troll and use pitch baits to catch mahi-mahi. These colorful, high-flying fish are a blast to catch and are also my favorite fish to eat. Learn how to locate them, troll effectively, and capitalize on a school once you have found them.
Striped Bass Tactics – From surf casting to boat trolling, I will show you how to catch more stripers during both the spring and fall runs. Find out which lures and rigs consistently produce results in different conditions and locations, from clam beds to rocky shorelines.
Tarpon Fishing – Learn baits and lures that will make tarpon bite. These silver kings can be shy or aggressive feeders depending on the conditions. With the right bait and rigs tarpon can be consistently caught. Just make sure to bow to the tarpon or it will likely throw the hook when it jumps.
Wahoo Fishing – Wahoo can be a difficult fish to catch as they have sharp teeth and are found in open blue water. This makes targeting wahoo different from most other offshore fish. Wahoo are fish that are worth learning how to catch though as they are a super exciting fish to catch.
How To Catch Freshwater Fish:
Walleye Tactics – Discover proven techniques for catching more walleye, including trolling, jigging, and using worm harnesses.
Pickerel Fishing– Pickerel are fast aggressive feeders which makes them very fun to catch. The key to catching them is having a fast moving lure. If you think you are reeling too fast, reel a bit faster and you will be surprised how many pickerel you can catch.
Trout Fishing – Master proven techniques for targeting trout with flies, spinners, and strategic jigging in river holes. Trout fishing is great as it can be done by anglers of all skill levels and the catch offers stunning colors and excellent table fare.
Fishing Setup:
Cast Nets – The key to catching more predator fish is to have live bait. Cast nets are a great way to catch local bait that prized game fish are used to eating.
Conventional Fishing Reels – When fishing offshore it is good to have conventional reels for trolling and spinning reels for trolling. Have a large enough reel with enough line is important as you never know how big of a fish is going to bite.
Personal Locator Beacons – When fishing offshore one of the most important safety devices to have is a PLB. This makes it so you can easily tell the coastguard your location and that you are in distress in the event of an emergency.
Saltwater Baitfish – Knowing what type of bait can be used is important. Sometimes you can catch bait with a cast net. Other times you can catch it with a sabiki rig or small piece of bait. If you do not know where to catch fresh bait you can typically buy it or have to resort to using artificial lures.
